This past Sunday Tom Burton resigned as an elder, after serving in this role for 20 years. The congregation gave him a well-deserved standing ovation. Speaking for the elders, Ronnie Rummage noted Tom’s wit, composure, candor, compassion for children and service to his country. (Tom saw combat duty in Vietnam.) He could always be counted on to offer wise counsel in various situations. Ronnie said, “Tom’s sacrifices of time, energy and service have not gone unnoticed.” Chris Smith praised Tom for his gift of encouragement. “Through the years I could always count on Tom to periodically call and offer a kind word. He did this not just for me but for many people.”
Tom and Chris will continue to worship and work at Harpeth Hills. Tom remains active in the community. He is a long-time member of Rotary and assists veterans in receiving the help they need. In addition to enjoying their children and four grandchildren at Harpeth Hills, Tom and Chris will continue to make trips to France to visit their other grandson as well.
Thank you Tom and Chris Burton for your years of faithful service.
