Honduras week 2 – day 1

Honduras week 2 – day 1

Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know that I am.
Be still and know.
Be still.
Be.
Psalm 46:10

Be what?

Be bold and might forces will come to your aid?

Be kind always because people are fighting battles you have no idea of?

Be strong and courageous?

What does it mean to be?

It was recently shared with me that we were human beings before we became associated with all our doings. This is what caused the Exodus story to be so powerful. God commands those who were formally slaves to rest one day a week and be still. And there is a great difference between being still and doing nothing.

On our first day we were asked to be still. The work site was narrow for our first day which made it difficult for many of our team to maneuver or contribute. We were confined to a feeling of idleness and impatience as we sat bemoaning our station.

The reason I dislike being still is because it is a forfeiture of power. I must trust God to be God and accomplish the task on His time, not mine. The humor of course is that while the first day was slow and we practiced the presence being it prepared us for a second day which was full of non-stop creating, constructing and completing (or vary nearly completely as I will recap tomorrow).

We like business because it is a way of tracking progress but not always. Perhaps God reminded us on day one that He was here first and He has been at work and will continue to do so long after we leave. Today was humbling and I doubt few of us now doubt God is here on this trip. You dwell in our hearts and we hold you fast with our God.

Grace and Peace,
Tristan.
