Day three recap
A long awaited journey
The wheels on the bus go round and round as 72 eyes take in the Honduran country side. The mountains roll and break with thundering beauty and power. We are small and the word is vast and it humbles my proud soul. Students are singing and I am sure that while we are all taking the same bus ride each person would tell a different story and mine consists of the grand mountains dwarfing me with their unyielding might.
The bus bruises and beats upon our backs as we pull into Jovenes for a day of work, sandwiches and soccer. We mix concrete, lift rocks and dig trenches while picking mangos from trees and picking strands of mangos from our teeth. The work is tough and yet brings a joy not found in movies or dinners at restaurants. We share sandwiches held together by peanut butter and jelly and made with love for those about to devour them and we share smiles and snacks as we eat and rest. We conclude Jovenes with a game of soccer rivaling the World Cup championship and then load up to come back to the hotel.
We stay at the hotel for the night and eat pizza and play games before turning into bed with out sides hurting from the laughter and our hands hurting from the labor. We sleep well with excitement sleeping dormant in our veins for what tomorrow will bring us.
Grace and Peace,
Tristan
