Day 4 recap
Hallelujah
We wake up and not just from sleep but to life in all its complex beauty and confusion. We attend worship at El Pedro Gal and watch as people unabashedly lift hands, voices, hearts and hopes to God. We are humbled by the words shared and the hands stretched out in greeting and love. We do not understand the words but true moments transcend languages.
We exit the hot auditorium for a quick grasp at the passing cool breeze before we pick up a student for a lunch at Burger King. The children remind us of what it means to be happy with littles before teaching us the spiritual practice of play and that we must not always be so serious. We watch countless children that will be counted upon loading back on the bus as they climb, slide and occasionally grab a french fry before repeating the pattern.
Now we are rocking, cheering as rain and sweat run as one down the faces of those in fierce competition on the fútbol field. We play hard and scrap several wins before the buzzer rings and we return once more to clean off the sweat, blood and grass which can equal a loss the same way it today yielded a win.
The day concludes with the youth rally at Church. Micaela Jansen spoke after the group praised God in both languages and she inspired and challenged us. Eric, one of the students here spoke next of the carpentry of Jesus and was followed by Brianna Ruck as she spoke to both groups while translating all by herself. We enjoyed pizza and arm wrestling after and went to sleep bruised, battered and better off than the day before.
Grace and peace,
Tristan
