Inner City Ministry: FAQ

Small Groups and individual volunteers are needed each week to help feed and host our special guests. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

  1. When is it? Inner City Ministry meets every Monday night that Metro schools are in session.
  2. Who do we serve? Children ages 3-9 come to Harpeth Hills from the JC Napier and University housing projects in downtown Nashville. We provide a meal and activities.
  3. How do I sign up? Individual volunteer registration is encouraged but not necessary. Sign up HERE or just show up when you can.
  4. What will I do and when do I need to be there? Volunteers report to the Tiled Lobby/Kids’ Koncierge at 6:45pm. The kids arrive around 7pm and depart at 8pm. New volunteers are paired with experienced volunteers and are never asked to serve in a room by themselves. Typically, there are 2-4 volunteers in a room with 8-10 kids.
  5. How can my Life Group help? We need two Life Groups each Monday night: One to provide and serve dinner, and one group to help in the classrooms. Volunteer your Life Group HERE
  6. What about my kids? Childcare is provided for young children of volunteers. Some volunteers with children age three or over choose to keep their kids in the classrooms with them.
  7. What if I don’t feel comfortable in the classroom? You can help us prepare and serve the food.
  8. What if I want to help but can’t help on Monday nights? Volunteers can drop off pre-packaged or frozen food prior to Monday night. Also, we need help preparing curriculum from week to week.
  9. Are there other things I could do to help? Yes! We have many other places to serve. We are in dire need of bus drivers. A CDL is required to drive the bus. One driver is needed every Monday night. Also, we always need talented videographers and photographers to highlight how special these kids are. We are also need teachers who are interested in arts, and who could help bring out the talent in these kids.
  10. Who can I contact if I have more questions? Ayesha Nasmyth
