One Year Bible Post from Chris Smith: March 30

Reading for Today–March 30
Deuteronomy 13:1-15:23
Luke 8:40-9:6
Psalm 71:1-24
Proverbs 12:5-7

The world of the Old Testament is strange indeed. On just about any page you are reminded that not only are you not in Kansas anymore, you are not in the same millennium.

“Do not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.” (Deuteronomy 14:21) What in the world?

The most likely explanation is this practice was associated with the religious practices of the foreign nations that surrounded Israel. And God wanted his people to be different morally, religiously, and socially. So no young goal boiling.

The challenge for us has always been how are we to be different from the world and in what ways are we to blend in.
