Reading for Today–April 1
Deuteronomy 18:1-20:20
Luke 9:28-50
Psalm 73:1-28
Proverbs 12:10
We all have our favorite Psalms. For me, Psalm 73 is right there at the top of the list. The writer is mightily concerned about the bad guys getting ahead while the good guys are keeping their hearts pure for nothing. What’s the deal he wonders.
All of us have thought this at one time or another. We look around us and the arrogant, prideful neighbor is killing it while we are not so fortunate. What is the point of being good and trying to do good after all?
The answer for the Psalmist came when he “went to church.” There he realized that the arrogant would receive their comeuppance one day. In worship he was reminded of a great truth.
“My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
But God remains the strength of my heart;
He is mine forever.”
Psalm 73:26
