One Year Bible Post from Chris Smith: April 11

Reading for Today–April 11
Joshua 3:1-4:24
Luke 14:7-35
Psalm 80:1-19
Proverbs 12:27-28

“Turn us again to yourself, O Lord God Almighty.
Make your face shine down upon us,
Only then will we be saved.”
Psalm 80:19

The Psalmist is in dire straits. His desperation is so great that he does not even trust himself to muster up enough faith to turn to God. So he asks God for help with his heart.

Sometimes are hearts are full, and we wait with eager anticipation for God. Other times our hearts are cold, and we are simply not having it. At times like this our prayers, if they are even uttered, are closer to, “Look, Lord, I am in a bad way here. I don’t want to pray. But I want to want to.”

The next time you find yourself questioning your own sincerity, and not particularly wanting to pray, quote Psalm 80:19.
