Psalm 83 is not the most flagrant of the Imprecatory Psalms. That designation goes to Psalm 137 and the famous line about babies. But Psalm 83 is enough to make us stand up and take notice.

“O my God, blow them away like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind!”

There are several points that can be made about such requests–points that can soften the blow of this harsh languages. One good reminder is the writer is asking God for justice. His is not a plea for personal vengeance but a plea for God to step in and do the right thing.
