Dear Harpeth Hills Family,

March 15, 2020 is a date we will remember for years—the day we were advised to stop assembling for worship at Harpeth Hills due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.

That day triggered a series of emotions that, for many of us, changed weekly. The word for the first week was denial, “This really can’t be that bad and will not last that long.” The next sentiment was, “It looks like it will be around a while, but it will not be bad in Tennessee and will go away as the weather warms up.” Then reality struck when it was obvious that it was serious. And finally, we experienced sadness and empathy as we saw the increasing number of deaths and illness.

Our new word now is “conflicted.” What are we to do? Mask or no mask? Do we go out to restaurants? And worship services? Do we venture out, or do we stay at home as recommended?

As we walk through this time of conflicting emotions, consider the following scriptures.

1 Corinthians 14:33
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

2 Timothy 2:7
Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

We want to offer a special thanks to our ministers and staff for their efforts the past two Sundays to provide multiple opportunities for worship. We appreciate the desire to follow the current guidelines for safe assembly.
