A Note from Our Shepherds: August 30, 2020

Dear Harpeth Hills Family,

We have all been a part of one of “those” conversations. Someone is suffering from a terrible illness or grieving the loss of a loved one or reeling from some unexpected tragedy in their personal life, and that person has no faith in God and no church family to lean on. We ask the question, “How are they handling this without God or church?”

We cannot imagine the loneliness and sadness of navigating life’s difficulties without our church family.

The opposite is true as well. The celebrations, laughter, and the sweet times are all the more special because we have godly friends who want to experience the joy with us.

There are many reasons we call Harpeth Hills our church home. Some of us love the preaching, while others value the quality children’s or youth program. Some appreciate the many ministries of the church, and others find the time of worship together the highlight of their week. But the common thread is the feeling of “family.” We love being known and being a part of something that is bigger than ourselves.

As we experience this period of smaller gatherings and measured contact with each other, let us not forget what brought us together before we heard of social distancing and COVID-19. We are the family of God that cares for each other, prays for each other, and laughs and cries together.

We love a God who never tires of encouraging us and holding us up.

There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. -Deut. 33:26-27

Let us continue to hold each other up with everlasting arms as we seek to be a light in a dark world.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples (‘family’), if you love one another. —John 13:35

We love our church family.
