15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross

In what way do you see the world differently today than you did in January of this year?  How has your perspective changed?  How has your focus changed?

NEXT

Read Colossians 1:15-20 together.  Read it slowly and at least a couple of times.  There is much to absorb here.

How is Jesus Christ “the image of the invisible God?”  Is that as true today as it was in Paul’s day?  (v 15)

Why does it matter if all things were created in Jesus and through Jesus and for Jesus?  If that is true what difference does it make?  (v 16)

Why does it matter if Jesus holds all things together?  What do you take from that?  What difference does it make? (v 17)

What do you think Paul means by “visible and invisible?”  What invisible things were created in him?  Does that also relate to “thrones or powers or rulers or authorities?”  Why is that important today? (v 16)

How tangibly is Jesus “the head of the body: the church?”  What does that tangibly look like in our day?  What should it look like? (v 18)

Read Acts 9:3-6 together and compare it to Colossians 1:15-20.  Paul clearly saw Jesus drastically different when he was writing to a church in Colossae than he had before the Damascus road event.  What do you think drove Paul’s change of perspective about Jesus?

CLOSING

Do you see Jesus differently today than you did in January of this year?  How has your perspective changed?  What led to that change?  Why does that matter?
