SERIES: FACES AROUND THE MANGER
Lesson 6 of 8
The Second Sunday of Advent: LOVE

1. How is love defined in this video? Do you agree that love is better understood as action
rather than feelings that can come and go independently of one’s will in the matter?

2. How does 1 Cor 13:4-7 characterize love?

3. Had you heard Bret Harte’s “The Luck of Roaring Camp” before? Do you understand why
Rubel sees it as a shadow story to the Christmas Story?

4. What does the name “Immanuel” mean? What does it signify about Jesus and his purpose in
coming to Planet Earth in human form? What does it say to us today? Cf. Matt 1:23.

5. What explanation does Peter give for what some have taken to be “slowness” on the part of
the Lord to return for his people and to judge evil? (2 Pet 3:9). How does his answer relate
to the Advent theme of love?

6. How does the love of God motivate you to pursue righteousness? (2 Pet 3:10-11). Be very
practical in your answer.
