Multiple choices from today’s reading catch my eye. Deuteronomy 3:22, Proverbs 11:27, or even Psalm 67:4. But I am going with Luke’s sermon on the plain. This is what we usually call Luke’s rendition of the Sermon on the Mount. Luke’s version is a little more in your face than Matthew’s. In Matthew 5:3 we read, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Luke 6:20 reads, “God blesses you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is given to you.” Or Luke 6:24. “What sorrows await you who are rich, for you have your only happiness now.” Yikes.
