Reading for Today–April 9
Deuteronomy 33:1-29
Luke 13:1-21
Psalm 78:65-72
Proverbs 12:25
We search for meaning in events. We wonder why this bad thing happened or why a good thing did not take place. Why is a common question.
Asking why is one thing. Thinking you know the answer is a bit more tricky. In the gospel passage today, Jesus informs his audience that what they thought they knew about God was wrong. Those murdered by Pilate or killed when the tower fell on them were not being punished by God. That is what everybody thought. They thought they knew the answer to the why question. And they were wrong.
We can learn all sorts of lessons as we grapple with the current crisis. Just be cautious when it comes to speaking for God and his purposes and his ways.
