Letter to the Church April 22, 2020

Dear Harpeth Hills,

The term “snowflake generation” was designated word of the year in 2016. The Collins English dictionary defines the term as “the young adults of the 2010s, viewed as being less resilient and more prone to taking offense than previous generations.”

Two weeks ago two members of Harpeth Hills got married. Big, fancy weddings were canceled, and vows were exchanged in back yards in front of a handful of guests. One wedding took place, in part, because the bride and groom are both nurses, and they no longer wanted to live with parents and continue to expose them to increased risk.

High school and college seniors are forgoing graduation parties and celebratory trips. For the most part, they are fine. (Moms on the other hand…)

Kids move back home, finish up school work online, and make do like everybody else. A host of young health care providers go to work every day. Young adults volunteer in our communities.

Less resilient? Maybe not.

I love you.
