As shepherds of this family at Harpeth Hills, we believe that all people are created in the image of God. We believe there is no such thing as justice for one group. There must be justice for all, or there is no justice. We believe in mercy and grace. We know that we are all sinners who have fallen short of the glory of our God, but we can stand in His presence because Jesus came to be King, and He is King.
We also know that the church has too often remained silent and been complicit in the subjugation of people. We commit now to speak out in words and deeds for justice for those of color, and we beg for the forgiveness from God and from those of color for all the wrongs and mistakes we have made. Oh God, please forgive us and help us! We pray and ask you to pray that each and every member of Harpeth Hills will be a part of the solution for reconciliation.
The shepherds and ministers of the body of Christ at Harpeth Hills choose to stand with those of color, with women, with the poor and with all who face injustice. We do not know what this will look like exactly, but we will not be silent. May we never forget, Lord, what you have shown us, and may we offer mercy and love to all who are in need. We trust in the unfailing love of God.
We love you.
