Luke is a historian. But he’s more than that. He’s a storyteller. Masterfully retelling a story of the good news that is embodied in the person of Jesus, Luke has to decide which stories to inscribe on limited parchment. The stories he chooses give us a glimpse into what Jesus means for those who have; for those who don’t have; for disciples; and for our neighbors. May our study of Luke’s gospel produce in us the purpose for which it was written…”certainty of the things you have been taught.”

If you knew that you could have anything, what would you ask for? A man named Solomon asked for wisdom. With all other options out on the table he asked for and received wisdom.
What is wisdom? Where does it come from? How do you know if you have it? How can you recognize it in others?

Salvation was made complete at the Cross, but His work continues. Acts is the part two of the Jesus Narrative. Building on Luke’s Gospel, Acts is “the work and teaching of the now risen and ascended Jesus in the power of the Spirit.” As a church we join together as people full of God’s Spirit in sharing the best news ever.
“…tell the people all about this new life.” – Acts 5:20

The words of Jesus are still true. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Generosity involves more than our money. We are called to share our gifts of time, treasures, testimony and talents with others.

Just as God worked through the early church described in Acts, so He is now at work in us. Some of our stories are dramatic and others sound pretty ordinary. But they are all our stories.
God is at work. Here and now.

The final days of Jesus’ life are anything but obscure. The anointing at Bethany, washing the disciples’ feet, cursing the fig tree, the Last Supper, the trial and crucifixion—all of these events and more took place in the last week of Jesus’ life.
This season before Easter is the perfect time to reflect on your life. What needs to change, where do I need to repent, how is God calling me? Another way of asking these questions is, “If I knew these were my final days, how would I live?”

The football coach addressed the team the day after a miserable performance on the field. As all eyes focused on him, he held up the pigskin and announced, “Gentlemen, this is a football.” For the team it signaled a return to the practice field and stress on the fundamentals of blocking and tackling. For six weeks in January and February we return to the basics of our faith and remind ourselves of what it means to be a church—a church that Christ purchased with his blood.
What does it mean to be a church after all? What is it that a church is supposed to do? What good is church?

How do we begin to describe the Son of God? Long ago the prophet Isaiah used terms like “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” To this list the New Testament adds scores of others—Bread of Heaven, Good Shepherd, Lion of Judah, Light of the World, Living Water and many more. Max Lucado writes, “Christianity, in its purest form, is nothing more than seeing Jesus. Christian service, in its purest form, is nothing more than imitating him who we see. To see his majesty and imitate him, that is the sum of Christianity.” During this Advent season, those hectic four weeks heading up to Christmas, we hope to see the Christ as Scripture reveals him.

But do we? What would happen if we really believed, deep down believed, that we are saved by God’s grace? What difference would this truth make in our families, our workplace and our walk with the Lord? This is the question we are going to investigate in our Fall sermon series. It is the best news that has ever been told. We are saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves. It is the gift of God. So what happens if we really believed it?

There are important conversations we need to have at church. On Sundays we are addressing various topics during a combined Bible Class in the Auditorium and during the worship service. Each of the following Wednesdays, we continue the discussion in the Community Room. Pray for God’s Spirit to cover us as we address with hope and redemption topics which cause pain for God’s children.

The arresting title of Lynn Anderson’s book, Talking Back to God, aptly describes the book of Psalms. In its pages we are taught how to honestly express ourselves to God. What do you say to the Lord when you are heartbroken, ecstatic with joy, confused, angry, pumped, disturbed, or overwhelmed with wonder? The answer is found in the church’s original songbook. This summer we journey through the Psalms individually and corporately as we read through all 150 Psalms over seven weeks. Each Sunday we are looking at a specific Psalm, seeking to discover our voice as we listen to the voices of others.

For centuries Christians have marked time, not by the secular calendar or government holidays or school year or sports seasons, but by events in the Christian Calendar. The year begins with the Season of Advent, which we observed this past December. The next season is Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, 46 days before Easter. Following Easter time is the season leading to and following Pentecost in the summertime. Thus there is the weekly flow of time from Lord’s Day to Lord’s Day and this overarching calendar that marks time throughout the year.

Members of the household of God is the language of Paul. God calls us to be family–a united people who care about each other, pray for each other, and treat each other right. This sermon series looks at this crucial concept through the lens of the epistle to the Ephesians.

Sinners and Saints. Sometimes the line between the two is almost indistinguishable. Bold preacher, frightened father, mighty warrior, faithful servant, slick weasel—as we transverse this list of Old Testament characters we see people who look a lot like us. More importantly we see a God who works through people, even people like us.
