Dear Harpeth Hills family,
As an encouragement to others and a way for our church family to be engaged in singing even when we are apart, please consider participating in a congregational video recording of “A Common Love”, a song we have intentionally chosen for its theme of unity.
Each participant (individual or couple) should record themselves (with video) singing the song while simultaneously following along with and listening to (using earphones) the guide video (link below). Next, you will submit your video and it will be joined with other submissions to create our virtual congregational singing of “A Common Love”.
There is no pressure for you to participate, but we do hope many will take part in this experiment and exercise in congregational unity. Please follow the instructions below and be sure to submit your recording by this Wednesday, June 10.
We can’t wait to see and hear you!
Robert King and Trey Wrapp
Instructions
(If you find it difficult, reach out to someone near you who is more comfortable with technology.)
1. Don’t be afraid – you won’t break anything and we won’t embarrass anyone.
2. Listen/watch the guide video with one device (computer, iPad, phone) and have an earphone in one ear with the sound from that device (couples share the same earphones, each having one side of the same pair)
3. With a separate device (computer, ipad, phone) record yourself (with video) while you sing along to the guide video.
4. Start your video recording at least 5–10 seconds before it’s time to sing and leave it running at least 5-10 seconds after you finish. The extra will be edited out later.
5. As explained in the guide video, sing the song through 2 times. The 1st time will be in unison on the melody. The 2nd time you can sing melody or a harmony part. If some notes are out of your range, just leave them out as you would if singing in church.
6. The main thing is timing. Trust your eyes for timing and synchronize your singing with what you see.
7. When you are pleased with your recording, submit your video using the upload form below. If you have any difficulty with the upload, email or text the recording directly to robert.king@lipscomb.edu. Request cell number for text by email.
